My main hobby is woodturning, which leads to a much broader interest in recognising, identifying and sourcing timber.
I have been turning as a hobby for about three years, and have now managed to get to the point where people know of my woodturning, and offer me timber from various sources (tree pruning/felling,old furniture, joinery offcuts etc.) rather than it just going to the local landfill.
This is where I like to follow the woodturners tradition of making something from donated timber as a thank-you present for the supplier ; there are very few things I enjoy more than being able to take something that would otherwise have been burnt or thrown away, and make something useful or decorative out of it and let at least some of it live again!
I normally have a stock of blanks in,so I am in with a good chance of being able to make things when people request them.
And a small selection of boards, square stock and natural edge pieces
As well as lots of timber out air-drying for use in years to come
